A worksite tour is when businesses and organizations invite a group of students into the work environment to show them various career opportunities available in a particular field and all aspects of a business. Worksite tours are typically between 30 and 90 minutes in length.
What are the goals of a worksite tour?
Each location will provide a unique experience. Goals of a worksite tour include:
• Educate students about the wide variety of career options available to them
• Provide first hand experience for students to learn about a typical day on the job, where different people work and what they do.
• Show a link between basic classroom skills, including “core coursework” (literacy, math, science, social studies) and “soft skills” (work ethic, punctuality, effective communication, initiative, etc.) to success in the workplace
• Provide an opportunity for students to ask questions and gain insight into possible career choices.
What does a good worksite tour look like?
A good worksite tour is engaging, stimulating and informative. Tours should provide students with an understanding of the inner office workings including multiple departments and areas of business.
